Real-Life Injury, On-Screen Mystery! Why Carly Was Stuck in Her Kitchen on GH!

As General Hospital's Jason and Sonny have both recently noted, Carly doesn't cook. However, as Carly pointed out, she does bake, but she hasn't even been doing that. Instead, she has been sitting in her kitchen with nary a baking pan or measuring spoon around.

Laura Wright's pickleball injury

Wright thought she was fine after hurting her knee during a game of pickleball. She felt her knee pop out of its joint, but then it popped right back in. While she knew she would be sidelined from playing pickleball for a while, she told Soap Opera Digest she was walking just fine with no pain — until she returned to work.

That's when she realized her injury might have been a little more serious than it originally seemed. That led to some adjustments being made in Carly's kitchen activities.

A General Hospital quick change

Wright explained that she had no trouble walking straight, but any side motion that was similar to a pickleball move seemed to become a problem. When Sonny finally broke down and told Carly that he needed heart surgery, Wright wasn't supposed to be sitting, but her knee forced the issue.

"I had all these scenes in Carly’s kitchen with Maurice [Benard, Sonny]," she said. "I went to get up and move, just stand up and walk, and my knee popped out again! Literally, it was some side motion with how I turned my foot and went to step up. I went down and I was like, 'Oh my God!' It hurt so bad."

The same thing happened the next day, when the actress had to shoot not just one, but three General Hospital episodes.

"They just had to change all my blocking [for the cameras] because I was so rattled...They were like, ‘Just park it on the stool!'" she relayed. "So, if you wanted to know why, for a few episodes, I was sitting on a stool talking to everybody in Carly’s kitchen, that’s why...It made sense — Carly’s in her kitchen, sitting at the counter."

While Wright said she is going to adjust her pickleball game so something like this doesn't happen again, Carly is back in action and getting around just fine. This week, she is about to learn a big secret, via Lulu (Alexa Havins) — one that her BFF Jason (Steve Burton) will surely want to hear about.
