Well, we finally know how Bold & Beautiful will write off Steffy during her portrayer’s maternity leave. And as we’ve come to expect, it makes about as much sense as Sheila’s redemption tour. Before we dive into the big questions surrounding Steffy’s exit and Liam’s supposed — yes, supposed — recovery, a farewell of my own: For reasons too boring to get into, we at Soaps have decided to drop the weekly Soapbox colunn. Make no mistake, the writers and the opinions aren’t exiting stage left, they’re simply moving into different formats. In fact, this shift will mean you get more of us in a less rigid format. So now, let’s dish this week’s biggest developments!
Why Steffy Is Really Leaving
Yes, yes, we all know that Jacqueline MacInnes Wood is preparing to welcome her fifth child, which is technically the reason she and Steffy are about to exit. But I think there’s a whole lot more to the story… especially since on its surface, Steffy leaving — and taking Kelly! — while Liam is still recovering makes zero sense.
More: How we know Luna is alive
Unless, that is, we look at the other big story on the canvas, which finds Finn and Bridget questioning exactly how Grace and her mysterious colleague saved Liam’s life. We know, we know, it was a miracle. (If you were to drink every time that word was uttered this week, you’re likely dead of alcohol poisoning.) But it could not be more obvious that there’s more to the story.

Is Liam Still Dying?
At first, I assumed Grace had faked the tumor in order to bilk money out of Bill. Now, however, I’m thinking something far more sinister has gone down: Grace faked Liam’s recovery in order to scam Bill out of a million bucks. Which would mean that Liam is, in fact, still dying!
More: Why we’re majorly over this Bold & Beautiful couple
Imagine the horrendous guilt Steffy would feel if she left town, Kelly in tow, only to have Liam die of the tumor that had never actually been removed. Is that why Grace is suddenly MIA and refusing to answer the questions posed by her fellow docs? Unless I miss my guess — and hey, it’s been known to happen — Finn’s deep, meaningful looks at those scans will eventually help him realize the truth about Grace’s con.
Random Thoughts
• Brooke throwing herself at Ridge for the millionth time and Eric being so incredibly disrespectful of Taylor were equally disturbing to me. Rather that confronting Brooke after listening in on the blonde’s attempt to win back her ex, Taylor should have strolled right in there and said, “I’m done.” She, and we, deserve better.
• Jack Wagner’s Nick remains every bit as charming as I remember him being in the past. But it’s kinda ridiculous that his life has apparently been on hold all these years, just waiting for another chance to hit on Brooke. And if that’s the case, why didn’t he do it any of the other times the pair very publicly broke up?
• Why was Ivy sitting around talking to her niece about Liam instead of, I don’t know, paying him a visit? Heck, why hasn’t she made a play for him in the months since she last planted a kiss on the hapless hunk and made it clear she was still into him?
• Liam and Steffy laughing with Sheila? Let’s add that to the ever-growing list of things on this show which make me say, “I can’t even.”
• Li admitting she already “handled” Luna’s funeral arrangements pretty much proves that the killer is alive and well and being kept by her aunt, who will clearly bond with Sheila over the granddaughter they both believe deserves another chance.
