Reason the Blue Jackets Canceled Patrik Laine's Tribute at the Last Second Revealed

The Columbus Blue Jackets organization did indeed change their mind at the last minute regarding Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine.

Reason the Blue Jackets Canceled Patrik Laine's Tribute at the Last Second Revealed

The Jackets had planned to show a short tribute video on the big screen during last night's game to highlight Laine's return to town, but they ultimately decided against it.

Let's recall that just a few hours before the matchup between the Canadiens and the Blue Jackets, a Columbus journalist published an article where Laine opened up about the reasons behind his trade request.

Essentially, Canadiens' number 92 explained in the interview that he requested a trade from Columbus simply because he was tired of losing and playing for an organization that, in his view, accepted defeat too easily.

These comments did not sit well at all in the Blue Jackets locker room and Zach Werenski took exception to these harsh comments from Laine.

A Tribute Video Canceled for Patrik Laine

This explains why Laine's return was not acknowledged on the big screen last night.

"In fact, according to what Marc Denis reported during the game between the Canadiens and the Jackets on RDS, Laine's comments caused a strong reaction in Columbus.

The Blue Jackets had even prepared a tribute video for the Finn but ultimately changed their mind after hearing Laine's remarks.

Laine was even booed by Columbus fans.."

Personally, I think it's refreshing to see a player who isn't afraid to say what they truly think instead of delivering rehearsed lines, and he has every right to do so.

Now, let's just hope his injury isn't too serious.
