Goals?!?
It was a Thanksgiving Miracle on Long Island last night, as the Bruins realized that they are, in fact, allowed to score more than one goal in a game, potting six in a 6-3 win over the New York Islanders.
The Bruins got two goals apiece from Brad Marchand and Pavel Zacha, plus three assists from David Pastrnak to head into Thanksgiving with a win.
Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves in the win, improving his record to 4-0-1 in his last five starts.
The highlights:
The good
- Six goals in a game! Sure, one was an empty-netter, but in the immortal words of Jack Edwards, they don’t ask how, they just ask how many.
- All of the Bruins goals came at even strength (unless you consider the empty-netter shorthanded, which is splitting hairs), which is a good sign.
- The Bruins, for the most part, cleaned up some of their more undisciplined play, recording just a single minor penalty (and that came 55 minutes into the game).
The not-so-good
- Turnovers remained an issue, as most of the Islanders goals and chances came directly as a result of careless play with the puck.
- The Islanders were even more disciplined than the B’s, avoiding any penalties — which is a shame, as it might have given the Bruins’ power play a chance to get going against the league’s worst PK.
Both of those “not-so-good” points are kind of nitpicking — overall, it was a good win for the Bruins, who will now head into American Thanksgiving in third place in the Atlantic Division.
For all of this team’s struggles, they’re still in a playoff spot at Thanksgiving (albeit with several more games played than teams around them), so...positives?
