Recent Bruins call-up ready to help team get much-needed wins

Riley Tufte is hoping to make an impact during his latest call-up to the Bruins.

Boston summoned the forward from Providence on Wednesday ahead of its game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. Tufte skated on the second line with Elias Lindholm and Charlie Coyle.

“Just try to the best I can out there,” Tufte said after Wednesday’s practice. “We’ve been playing well in the minors, we have a pretty good team down there. So, try to bring some of that energy up here and play big down low and hopefully pop a couple goals and bring some wins to this team.”

The Bruins are in desperate need of wins. After losing to the Nashville Predators at home on Tuesday, they fell to 28-27-8 on the season. They’re only two points behind the New York Rangers for the second Wild Card spot, but are also behind the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings.

Tufte appeared in five games for Boston earlier this season without a point. He’s hoping some of his offense from Providence — 31 points in 42 games — will follow him as he looks to give Boston a boost.

But even if he plays well during this call-up, he knows it doesn’t guarantee a permanent spot in the lineup.

“You play a game well up here, and the next day you could be in Providence,” Tufte said. “Stuff’s not going the way (the team hoped), that’s the guy who gets taken out of the lineup. ... We’re in a situation where we need wins, meet goals and we need to make plays out there. So, I’m gonna try to do the best I can and the biggest thing for me is I can’t be afraid to make a mistake.”
