The Boston Red Sox have one of the best farm systems in Major League Baseball. As a result, there could be multiple players the team has to move on from over the next few weeks to months to make room for guys.
Among them includes Masataka Yoshida, who's on a five-year, $90 million deal that spans through 2027.
Yoshida hasn't lived up to the hype, and there's even a scenario where he could be designated for assignment due to all the talent on the roster, according to Ken Rosenthal.
"You left Yoshida out of the equation. I don't see how he fits now that Devers is the DH. Now, once Anthony is ready, it really becomes an interesting question.
"At the moment, they're using Kristian Campbell in center field on certain days when they want to get David Hamilton into the lineup as a left-handed hitting second baseman. I don't know how long that will continue... This is not a problem... These things have a way of working out on their own. But the real issue to me is going to be Yoshida and will he be ultimately a guy that they might have to DFA?" Rosenthal said on " Fair Territory."
Hopefully, for the Red Sox's sake, they'll find a way to trade him. Even if a team is willing to move a below-average prospect, getting something rather than nothing in return would be the best scenario.
However, someone taking on his contract doesn't seem likely after showing limited power and the young talent coming up.
