Red Sox Could Deal Alex Bregman Under One Condition Before MLB Trade Deadline

The Boston Red Sox need to have a plan at the trade deadline, as there are multiple ways the front office could go. Most importantly, they have a tough decision to make with Alex Bregman.

While Bregman has been on the IL for quite some time now, and it still remains uncertain when he'll exactly return, there's no debating that he's a great player and should be wanted in Boston for a very long time.

However, because he's getting up there in age, he likely will want a five-plus-year deal for big money and much more, it remains uncertain what the Red Sox want to do.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, there's a chance that the Red Sox could move on from him, but only under one condition: if they don't sign him to an extension before the deadline.

“This was another shocking name to me, but some execs believe the Red Sox could move on from Bregman at the trade deadline if they can’t extend him by then,” Bowden wrote.

“Bregman and his agent, Scott Boras, have told the Red Sox they are open to signing a long-term extension now. But if the two sides can’t work out a deal, don’t be surprised if Boston trades him to either the Tigers or Mariners at the trade deadline.”

If the Red Sox were playing better right now, signing Bregman would make more sense.

Of course, the injury has to be factored in, but they know what they're going to get out of the star.

The goal is to win beyond this season, so why not keep him around?
