Red Sox fans should be thrilled by what the team is telling agents
The Boston Red Sox have been heavily invested in the pitching market this season, looking for someone to bolster and lead their rotation. While they seem to have narrowed down their free agent targets to Blake Snell, Max Fried and Corbin Burnes, new information has come to light.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Sox have made it known to agents they plan on signing two of the three pitchers.
Burnes is probably the Sox’s third favorite to acquire. The Cy Young had a good season, but not as good as his past ones. posted a 2.92 ERA with a 15-9 record, and 181 strikeouts in 32 games. His K/9 was 8.4, and his BB/9 was 2.2. Burnes is also a righty, which the Sox have plenty of in their pitching staff.
As for the other two, either would be amazing, and getting both would be unbelievable. Snell made 20 starts, and posted a 5-3 record, with a 3.12 ERA, and 145 strikeouts. Fried started 29 games, posted a record 11-10, and obtained an ERA of 3.25 and 166 strikeouts.
Both of them are also lefties, so going from a total righty rotation to a 3-2 righty-lefty rotation would be great.
This also doesn’t account for if the Sox go for Garrett Crochet in a trade still, and then have four All-Star starters in their rotation. Or, they could take the package they were going to use for him and use it somewhere else. Either way, it would be a gigantic win for the Red Sox offseason.
