Red Sox іnjurіes: Vаugһn Grіssom to undergo MRI

The Red Sox placed both Vaughn Grissom (right hamstring strain) and Romy Gonzalez (left hamstring strain) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Grissom injured his hamstring running to first base on a ground ball in the second inning Saturday. He will undergo imaging on it.

“He (Grissom) is actually getting an MRI to see where we’re at,” manager Alex Cora said before Boston’s game against the Tigers on Sunday. “We don’t expect Romy’s to be that long.”

Grissom injured his left hamstring during spring training and missed the first 32 games of the regular season. Cora is unsure yet if this will be another lengthy IL stint.

“We’re not there yet,” Cora said. “He feels like it wasn’t as bad as in spring training. But he’s getting imaging so we’ll know.”

Possibly the minimum 10 days for Gonzalez

Cora said it likely will be the minimum 10 days on the IL for Gonzalez.

“We have to make sure he’s healthy,” Cora said.

Cora added that Gonzalez didn’t injure his hamstring on a specific play.

“Just felt tight yesterday,” Cora said. “He wasn’t a go today. It was going to take a few days. So we needed to make the move.”

Yoshida could begin rehab stint soon

Cora said Masataka Yoshida feels good after hitting outside Saturday for the first time since being placed on the injured list (thumb strain).

“We’re not hitting outside (Sunday). Probably he’ll hit inside,” Cora said. “But he felt great.”

Asked if Yoshida could be ready for a rehab assignment when Boston leaves for Chicago to play the White Sox later this week (Thursday-Sunday), Cora replied, “Hopefully. Hopefully.”
