Red Sox lineup: Danny Jansen poised to make history in first of two Monday

If you’re going to Monday’s first game between the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, save your ticket stub. Or at least a screen shot from digital ticket.

You’re about to witness something no one has previously seen: one player, playing for both teams in the same game.

Back in June, the Red Sox and Blue Jays had a game postponed in the second inning. When the game was halted, Danny Jansen, then the Blue Jays catcher, was at the plate. At the trade deadline, however, Jansen was dealt to the Red Sox. And Monday, he’ll be behind the plate when the game resumes — for the team which was the opposition when the game began two months ago.

Alex Cora has been prodded by media people to make sure than Jansen plays and has agreed. It should be something.

Monday’s game is the start of an important stetch for the Red Sox, who finish up the current homestand with a five-game series with Toronto. The Red Sox begin the day 4.5 games out in the race for the third and final wildcard spot in the American League and can ill afford to drop back any farther.

Boston was swept over the weekend by Arizona and is looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
