Red Sox Predicted To Lose Alex Bregman Sweepstakes to AL East Rival

The Boston Red Sox seem to be one of the remaining teams in the mix for third baseman Alex Bregman.

Bregman would be an excellent addition at this stage of the offseason, but his price could be a potential issue.

If the Red Sox were to hand over a multi-year deal for over $100 million, it could backfire on them.

However, there's also a scenario where not signing him could backfire even more than giving him a chance, especially if he signed with another team in the American League.

Bregman still has the ability to flip a series upside down, and the Red Sox would rather have that on their side than in an opposing dugout.

But that may be how it plays out.

Chad Jennings of The Athletic predicted the two-time All-Star would do just that, predicting him to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays.

"This is the splash the Blue Jays have been trying to make for a couple of years. Bregman is a better fit — both short-term and long-term — than Alonso would have been, and he would give the Blue Jays one of the best infields in all of baseball alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Andrés Giménez," Jennings wrote.

The Blue Jays have been trying to make a splash all winter, similar to the Red Sox.

Boston has done a much better job building its roster than Toronto, but losing Bregman to the Blue Jays could be a tough blow.

They clearly want him, and watching him sign with a division rival wouldn't be ideal.
