Red Sox SP Walker Buehler Blasts Francisco Lindor, Mets After Ejection

Two things appeared to really set Buehler off. A hit by pitch in which Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was accused of leaning into contact, and a ball four call facing outfielder Juan Soto.

Despite Buehler only lasting 2.1 innings pitched due to the ejection, the Red Sox bullpen combined to shut out the Mets the rest of the way. The Tuesday night matchup ended in a score of 2-0, in favor of Boston.

The fiery night on the mound didn't end on the field, however, as Buehler appeared to call out Lindor and the Mets on X, well past midnight.

In response to a popular X post, ripping Lindor for "leaning into a pitch" and then "screaming + rooting for the ejection" from second base, Buehler sounded off with the following message:

"I wouldn't want me out there either. Sad thing is the BULLPEN is full of [expletive] animals. Tough choice."

Red Sox fans seemed to appreciate Buehler's social media comment, which already has over 10,000 likes as of 8:30 a.m. (EST) on May 21.

Buehler was much more measured during his postgame press conference.

"First off, I think obviously the bullpen — today's game was a story about the bullpen, obviously I put them in a really tough spot off of a day that we asked a lot of them," Buehler began.

"I've been in this league too long for that to happen," the Red Sox pitcher continued. "I think, for me personally, it's one of those things [where] you're very conflicted [about] how you feel. Very convicted in what I felt and saw, but at the same time, this is a team game and [that was] something I kinda let get out of hand."

Buehler called that aspect of the situation the "disappointing part of it," adding that next start he hopes to pitch "a little deeper" into the game.

Buehler chose not to comment publicly on Estabrook, the umpire who ejected him and manager Alex Cora from Red Sox-Mets.
