Red Sox Youngster Nаmed Toр 'Bust' Cаndіdаte for 2025 Seаson

When the Boston Red Sox traded Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers, fans were devastated and assumed the worst.

Red Sox Youngster Named Top 'Bust' Candidate for 2025 Season

After years have gone by, it is clear that things haven't worked out in Boston's favor, with only one player remaining from the trade package the Red Sox received.

That one player is catcher Connor Wong, who had a decent season last year. However, some aren't buying the hype.

In a recent Bleacher Report article from Joel Reuter, Wong was named one of the 10 biggest bust candidates among all MLB hitters for 2025.

Given the Betts trade, Wong has high expectations, at least among fans.

However, last season's .280 batting average may have been a bit of a fluke, as the gap from his expected batting average of .231 was the second-largest qualified amount in baseball.

To make matters worse, if Wong struggles at the plate like his advanced stats seem to suggest he will, he was not good defensively behind the plate, ranking 57th out of 59 catchers in pitch framing.

Wong is still 28 years old, so he has room to grow offensively and defensively, but it may be a big ask.

For now, Wong remains in the projected Opening Day lineup, but if his offense regresses and his defense doesn't improve, Boston fans will lose their last hope of returning any value in the Betts trade.
