The Boston Bruins will certainly be a team to watch very closely this summer. After a disappointing 2024-25 season, the Original Six club should be looking to improve their roster, especially when noting that they have cap space to work with.
One clear area that the Bruins need to upgrade is their defense. This is especially the case when it comes to their right side, and they are now being connected to one of the NHL's top pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) defenseman because of it.
According to The Fourth Period, the Bruins are among the teams likely to target Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Dante Fabbro if he becomes a free agent next month.
Fabbro will become a UFA on July 1 if the Blue Jackets do not re-sign him by then. When looking at the Bruins' current defense, there is no question that he would have the potential to be a great addition to their roster.
Fabbro appeared in 68 games this season split between the Nashville Predators and Blue Jackets, where he posted nine goals, 26 points, 66 hits, 136 blocks, and a plus-20 rating. He notably impressed on the Blue Jackets' top pairing with Zach Werenski after being claimed off waivers, however.
When looking at the season Fabbro just put together, he would have the potential to be a major addition to the Bruins' second pairing and penalty kill if signed. He could be the perfect replacement for Brandon Carlo, who the Bruins dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Bruins end up landing Fabbro this summer from here. There is still time for the Blue Jackets to re-sign him, but if they don't, Boston should be in the mix.
