According to a report, Woll's deal could be worth $3.5-$4 million per season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs truly believe that Joseph Woll is their goaltender of the future and now it looks like they may be ready to hand out the commitment to prove it.
According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, the Maple Leafs are closing in on a three-year contract extension with the goaltender in the neighborhood of $3.5-$4 million on an average annual basis.
Woll is entering the final year of a contract that pays him $766,667 per season, which is an incredible value for Toronto considering the role he occupies within the organization. He is eligible to sign an extension as soon as July 1 and based on Weekes' report, it doesn't sound like Toronto is wasting time.
There is no question of the 25-year-old Woll's capability. In 36 NHL regular season games, Woll has posted a 22-13-1 record and .915 save percentage. During the 2024 playoffs, the goaltender on in relief of Ilya Samsonov in Game 4 of the series and didn't relinquish the net after helping his team defeat the Boston Bruins in Games 5 and 6 to force a deciding Game 7.
However, injury issues have plagued Woll throughout his time as a professional goaltender and those concerns reared their ugly head when Woll wasn't able to suit up for a must-win Game 7 against Boston.
Based on this reported commitment, the Leafs don't appear to be too concerned and ready to commit to their goaltender.
In the three playoff appearances in 2024, Woll posted a .964 save percentage.
