Report: Porter Hodge Placed on IL; Ethan Roberts Recalled
While this isn’t the first time Hodge has been on the injured list this year, it is a new injury for him. Previously this year, Porter Hodge missed about a month due to hip and oblique injuries. To begin the year, Hodge looked to be a promising setup reliever for the Cubs as he provided solid numbers. Since then, he has had his good outings, but he has also scattered in some blow-up innings. Since returning to Chicago on June 25th, he has pitched 4.1 innings with a 14.54 ERA. While this is inflated by one bad outing, Hodge this year has had too many of those types of outings. Overall, Hodge has pitched 23.2 innings with a 6.85 ERA. Injuries have slowly derailed his season, and hopefully, he can bring his best back after recovering from them.

Ethan Roberts has limited MLB experience this year, despite a stacked Cubs bullpen, but has pitched 8.1 innings with a 1-0 record and a 5.40 ERA. Roberts was with Chicago at the beginning of the year and has been in Triple-A since May 2nd. Since being sent down to Triple-A Iowa, Roberts has performed well, boasting a 2.74 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 23.0 innings this year. He has been a solid option in the minors this year for Iowa and can hopefully carry that production to the majors. If he can hold his own for a short time while Hodge is out, he will be very successful.
