‘RHOA’ Star Bravely Shares Cancer Diagnosis: ‘I Will Be Here for My Kids’

   

he Real Housewives of Atlanta” friend-of, Monyetta Shaw-Carter opened up about overcoming breast cancer in an interview with People shared on May 31.

She recalled feeling something off in her left breast in September 2024 and getting her annual mammogram a month later, during which a lump was discovered.

Shaw-Carter was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma and underwent surgery, as well as radiation. Her treatment ended on May 2.

“Because I caught the cancer early, I will be here for my kids. There’s nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable. I can’t thank my exceptional doctors and nurses enough. They are our heroes!” she told People.

The reality star continued, “While doing all of the biopsies and MRIs I was first considering having a double mastectomy. But after my genetic testing came back favorable, and after sitting in my reality for some time, I decided on the lumpectomy.”

Shaw-Carter said that her ex Ne-Yo and fellow “RHOA” stars have rallied behind her after learning of her diagnosis.

“Ne-Yo was just showing up for me in a major way and just always asking and making sure everything was okay. He was like, ‘Oh, you’re gonna beat this,'” she said.

“When I told Kandi she immediately was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, what can I do?’ She’s been so super supportive,” Shaw-Carter added.


Shaw-Carter Received a Lot of Support From ‘RHOA’ Fans

After sharing her breast cancer diagnosis, Shaw-Carter received a lot of love. “Love you sis! Praying for God’s healing to cover you,” content creator Tahira Joy wrote.

“The nicest people get the most challenging battles,” a fan replied. Former “RHOA” producer Carlos King shared, “Praying and healing your way doll.”

Another fan wrote, “Here for you sis. We are now officially Breasties. We got this.”


Shaw-Carter Loved Being on ‘RHOA’

Shaw-Carter said on “The Sip & Sit Podcast,” in June 2023 that filming seasons 14 and 15 of “RHOA” was “good” because she had genuine friendships with many of the cast members.

However, she added, “Nothing can prepare you for the ‘Housewives of Atlanta,’ honey.” The television personality revealed that she had been on a reality show before but stated, “It’s different. It’s definitely different, but I’m loving it. It’s fun. I’m learning as I go.”

“One thing’s for sure, I’m being my authentic self … you either hate it or love it, but I gotta be me,” Shaw-Carter shared.

The mom of two revealed that she mostly sat back and watched during her first season but was more outgoing during season 15.

“I just made sure I jumped in there and you know, just voiced my opinions a few times, because if you say it one time, that part might not make it,” Shaw-Carter said.

On fans calling her “boring,” Shaw-Carter replied, “I’ve never been called boring. I’m a ball of fun.”
