Porsha Williams’ estranged husband, Simon Guobadia, has been sent back to his home country of Nigeria after spending the past several months at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.
After being taken into custody by ICE in February, a friend of Simon, 61, who is in the midst of a messy divorce from the 43-year-old Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member, confirmed the businessman was put on a flight back to Nigeria days ago.
Speaking to Us Weekly on June 10, Tai Savet said Simon was in “good spirits” after a rough experience at the Lumpkin facility and was hoping to have a meeting with President Donald Trump, 78.
According to the report, Simon is no longer listed as being housed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and has launched a new line of T-shirts in an effort to help others who have been taken into custody by ICE.
As RHOA fans may have heard, Simon first moved to the United States in 1982. However, after overstaying his visa on two different occasions, he was unable to gain citizenship.
Now that he’s back in Nigeria, Simon is expected to continue with his divorce proceedings with Porsha via video. While Porsha filed for divorce from Simon back in February 2024 after 15 months of marriage, their court battle was delayed numerous times due to Simon’s incarceration.
Although there is a divorce hearing set for tomorrow, June 11, the former couple is expected to appear on video streams rather than in person as they continue to fight over their marital home and prenuptial agreement.
“The motion to enforce the Prenuptial Agreement is a substantive motion that requires findings of fact by this Court. The outcome of the motion will also have a substantial effect on how the remainder of the divorce case proceeds, as it may be dispositive of some of the issues and result in litigation on others,” Simon’s attorney recently argued.
Meanwhile, as Porsha’s team requested she be able to appear on video, her lawyer told the court, “[Williams] is a well-known reality television personality, a career in which last-minute travel and unexpected opportunities frequently arise.”
“[Williams] shows that this employment opportunity would help [Williams] offset the numerous financial obligations that [Guobadia] has failed to maintain under the Temporary Order, as well as to offset the significant legal expenses [Williams] has already incurred in pursuing enforcement of the parties’ Prenuptial Agreement and defending herself against [Guobadia] as it relates to the instant divorce action,” the attorney continued. “[Williams] shows that her request for virtual appearance is made in good faith and reflects a balancing of her professional obligations and the serious nature of these proceedings, not a desire to delay or further complicate the instant litigation.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 16 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
