Once again, Kenya Moore’s hair spa is grabbing headlines for all of the wrong reasons. On The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the grand opening for the business went off the rails. That’s where Kenya unveiled poster boards showing suggestive images of her castmate, Brit Eady.
Since then, rumors have been floating around social media that the business never fully opened for clients. Now, a new report suggests that Kenya has been quietly battling with her landlord over unpaid rent.
In court documents reviewed by Us Weekly, Kenya Moore Hair Spa’s landlord accused the former RHOA star of owing $44K in rent and other charges. Her rent at this location is a whopping $4,379.48 per month. According to the landlord, she didn’t pay from December 2024 to April 2024. He also tacked on an additional $5,909 in operating expenses, taxes, and other fees
From there, the complaint requested $148 per day from Kenya until she vacated the premises. That’s how the bill has racked up to this enormous figure.
Last month, Kenya’s legal team filed a counterclaim against the landlord and denied owing all of this money. They accused the landlord of failing to pay for improvements and violating their contract. Allegedly, Kenya had to use her own funds to “maintain, repair, rehabilitate and improve” the property. She said those steps were necessary to make it “usable and able to be occupied for its intended use.”
Kenya’s legal team submitted the lease agreement as evidence. Those docs showed that the landlord agreed that the property could be used for RHOA. That begs the question of whether Kenya paid to remodel the spa so that it could be used for television. Either way, Kenya’s spokesperson made it clear that she invested a life-changing amount of cash into this endeavor.
“Kenya Moore entered a commercial lease and invested over $300,000 to build out her luxury hair spa. The landlord agreed in writing to reimburse Moore approximately $80,000 for tenant improvements but failed to make payment,” Kenya’s spokesperson told the outlet.
The statement concluded, “As a result of the landlord’s filing, Moore filed a countersuit. Despite the legal action, Moore remains hopeful the landlord will act in good faith and resolve the matter fairly and amicably.”
