RHOC’s Gina Kirschenheiter Reveals Ex Matt Suffered Heart Attack at 40 as She Shares Details of “Scary” Health Crisis and Says Kids Were Shaken Up

Gina Kirschenheiter revealed her ex-husband Matt had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. The Real Housewives of Orange County star said her kids are “shaken,” and she shared if he’s expected to recover.

Gina and Matt divorced shortly after she joined the show in 2018. Despite their past legal disputes, the exes have been on better terms recently as they co-parent their three kids. Both Gina and Matt are now in committed relationships with other people.

“Matt (the [kiddos’] dad) suffered a heart attack Saturday,” wrote Gina on a May 17 Instagram post, addressing the “scary” situation. “He’s only 40 years old!! Thank god Britt rushed him to the hospital and all the hospital staff acted quickly.”

“The kids were very shaken up but thankfully we can be smiling bc he will be okay,” she went on. “He came home today. The kids and Trav and I are so happy to have their dad back. This was too close of a call.”

The star shared a photo of herself with her daughter and Matt as he lay in the hospital bed.

“Really puts things in perspective. We will all be changing our lifestyle and leaning into the healthy bc being there for our kids is the only thing that matters,” she added. “Thank you for everyone who has checked in on us. For anyone out there struggling to coparent, remember you are all a family and what matters most is that you all get to be there for your kids. Tomorrow is not promised, today is a gift.”

In a 2022 interview for Watch What Happens Live, Gina shared an update with Matt after their legal disputes.  

“[Things are] great. Really great,” she said at the time. “We co-parent really well. We live down the block from each other. We’re at the sports fields all weekend and it continues to be totally normal. He lives with his girlfriend and she’s great… so it’s very good. I have a relationship with his girlfriend and we’re great.”
