Heather and Terry Dubrow are no strangers to wealth or the spotlight. The Real Housewives of Orange County stars have built an empire that includes luxury real estate, skincare, and clothing lines. Terry’s a successful plastic surgeon with his own practice and show, Botched, and Heather often shares glimpses of their glamorous life on social media. Who could forget Fancy Pants’ “Press for Champagne” button in her massive closet?
However, when it comes to their kids’ achievements, Heather insists that money has nothing to do with it. She recently slapped down mumblings that she and Terry paid for their daughter Katarina’s acceptance to Yale.
Heather Dubrow denies she and husband Dr. Terry Dubrow paid for daughter to get into Yale
The speculation started in April. That’s when Heather – who recently wrapped filming for RHOC Season 19 – announced 18-year-old daughter Katarina would attend the Ivy League university this fall. When an Instagram user asked, “How big was the donation?” Heather responded bluntly: “0$.”
She addressed the buzz again with Us Weekly on May 16 at Nancy Davis’ Race to Erase MS Gala. “Oh God, listen — that ship sailed a long time ago,” said Heather. “Even if I wanted to pay, that’s not a thing.”
“I am happy to say I had nothing to do with it,” Heather continued. “Kat did this all on her own, as did my other kids.”
She opened up about how past school admissions shaped her parenting style. “I’ll tell you a quick story,” Heather said. “When the twins got into kindergarten, that process of private school kindergarten was so ridiculous to me and upsetting and it gave me so much anxiety [that I said], ‘I’m never doing this again.’”
“So I told all the kids when they got to high school, ‘If you want choices, study, and here’s your guidance counselor and do your best. I’ll be your cheerleader, but I’m not fighting with you. This is your life. It’s up to you.’ And that’s exactly what we’ve done,” she concluded.
Last month, Heather celebrated Kat’s Yale acceptance with a heartfelt Instagram post.
“CONGRATULATIONS KATARINA!!!! We are so proud of you and excited to watch you SHINE in college !!!! WE LOVE YOU !!!!! @yale_2029 @yale #bedparty.”
Photos showed Kat with a “Class of 2029” cake, plus her proud parents and their family dogs.
Heather added, “You want your kids to be where they belong, not at the place they don’t belong, because they’re not going to be successful.”
Though Heather and Terry could certainly afford a hefty “donation,” especially after the millions in profits they made from selling their Orange County mansion and the eventual sale of their Beverly Hills abode, it sounds like this was all due to Katarina’s hard work. Best of luck to her as she embarks on her future!
