Bethenny Frankel is under fire after sharing a video in which she seemingly suggested that African American and Latin communities aren’t rich.
After politician and talk show host Jon Stewart, 61, suggested that the Hamptons was overpriced and filled with crowds of the “people you f*cking hate” the most in Manhattan, but in “shorts and Crocs,” on his podcast, The Weekly Show, the 53-year-old Real Housewives of New York City alum said that he “doesn’t know the Hamptons” as she attempted to explain why “only jerk-offs come” on weekends in the summer.
“The Hamptons is an amazing place because its farm meets beach meets woods, and there are all kinds of people here. It’s not only rich people. That’s not a joke, okay? There’s all kinds of people. There’s a big Latin community here, big. There is an African American community here on the beach,” she shared, adding that the African American community has “beautiful houses” and saying she “had a house there one summer.”
Bethenny went on to say that Montauk had both a family atmosphere and a Coachella vibe.
“It’s both things at the same time, so it can be douchey, but real Hamptons people come year-round and come during the week, and that’s how you get the mix,” she shared.
And while Bethenny also applauded the Hamptons for being “awesome” during spring, fall, and the holiday season, viewers of her social media video were more taken aback at her comments regarding rich people, African Americans, and Latins.
After The Shade Room reposted Bethenny’s video on their Instagram page, users of the social media platform accused her of being prejudiced.
“So the Latin community and Black people there aren’t rich people? Got it,” someone wrote.
“It’s the way she said it’s not all rich and then proceeded to mention Latin & African American people. I’m tired,” another complained.
“Sooo Latin and black [people are] not rich? I’m confused,” a third IG user stated. Another wondered, “How are you differentiating RICH with race?”
“[She’s] so blinded by her own prejudices, she’ll swear she didn’t say anything wrong,” suspected someone else.
Someone then suggested that Bethenny would soon offer an apology, “saying this was taken out of context.”
But another person defended Bethenny, suggesting that her comments were, in fact, taken “out of context.”
“She literally was just saying, ‘It’s not only rich white people.’ She didn’t say Black people and Latin people aren’t rich, y’all know what she meant but want to make it something else, and I don’t care in the slightest for Bethenny but I knew what she meant as I watched.”
“The lady said the African American community have huge houses on the beach, is everyone slow?” someone else wondered.
