The Real Housewives of New York is back for the second season of its reboot, causing quite a bit of conversation. While some fans are unhappy with the cast, others are rooting for them. Recently, Erin Lichy opened up about how this season differs from the first, issues with her marriage, and much more.
While there are some fans of the RHONY reboot, there have also been numerous think pieces about what Bravo needs to do differently. It seems many viewers feel that this group of ladies is too focused on what social media will think of their behavior, meaning they’re less likely than the OG cast to create compelling moments.
Recently, Erin sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the show and what fans can expect from the rest of the season. They started by discussing what she’s doing differently this time after watching herself on season one.
Erin said, “I think mostly I, like, at least with the new girls, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and get to know them before judging.”
Regarding her castmates changing, she said, “Honestly, no, I mean I’d say that Sai was like doing a lot of work on herself because she realized she had pent-up anger that she never dealt with, so I think that was really good, um, but everyone’s really the same.”
Erin also talked about the issues with her marriage that have appeared on camera this season, particularly the problems with her husband hiding things from her.
According to Erin, “I have to give credit where credit is due. You know Abe and I got into that little tiff at Serendipity, and later that night, he was like, ‘Babe, if you want to open up about what we’re actually going through so you don’t look like a crazy b****, we can do that.'”
She then said that opening up about their marital issues could inspire viewers to be more honest about their own struggles.
They then discussed some of the RHONY cast members not including their spouses on the show when Erin has been open about the issues with her marriage. To her credit, Erin seemed understanding of that decision.
She said, “This is the truth. You can’t force any individual to come onto this show, and if my husband said I’m not comfortable being on the show, I would respect that too. So ultimately, I go all into things, when I decide to do something, I go all in. I’m, I take this like seriously as something I signed up for, and so that’s why we’re so open, but I respect everyone’s decision.”
The drama between Ubah Hassan and Brynn Whitfield also came up. Specifically, she was asked if she thinks Brynn is condescending. She responded, “I mean, yeah, did you see the episode with me and her at her apartment?”
Erin continued, “I felt like she was being condescending with me a little bit, but also, it doesn’t hit me like that. It doesn’t upset me in that way. So, I think Ubah doesn’t like to be interrupted because English is not her first language, so when she’s getting her point across, she just needs a moment, and I know her well enough to give her that so she can fully flesh out what she’s trying to say.”
She also teased the situation that led to Ubah threatening to quit over issues with Brynn, and she called the situation “level 10.” She also said they are steering clear of each other as things have not improved.
Regarding where she stands with Brynn, Erin said, “Just wait to see what she does to me later.”
The conversation then went to Jenna Lyons and the situation with the Uber. Erin said, “I felt like we had a breakdown in our friendship. Jenna’s more sensitive than she comes off, I’ll put it that way, and I was just like, you know, screw this, like, I need my friends right now. Like, she’s not checking in on me. I’m going through hell, you know, and I was just frustrated.”
Regarding who broke her trust the most this season, she said, “I mean, the situation with Brynn and Ubah was really so sad, um, it’s just so sad, and I think that broke my trust in just the group, to be honest.”
She then said she doesn’t know if the group will take the necessary ownership to fix their issues.
They also discussed the newbies and how they fit into the group of ladies. According to Erin, “They both fit in pretty seamlessly. It didn’t feel like there was a random person there. It felt very organic.”
She was then asked about Rebecca Minkoff being a Scientologist and how she has handled the public conversation. Erin said, “I feel like that’s something very personal, and it’s, you know, it’s not else’s place to speculate. It’s her life. It’s her religion.”
They also discussed fans not being able to “get over” the former cast members. She said, “Stop watching us. You hate us so much, just stop watching us, and they’re not going anywhere, and they’re, I’m, I’m obsessed with them. I’ve, like, got to know them better.”
She then says she’s obsessed with Dorinda Medley.
Finally, she gave an update on her family. Her dad recently passed away, and she was too emotional to talk about it. Regarding her mother’s cancer battle, she said that she’s doing great and that this situation has given her “a sense of appreciation.”
Fans can watch RHONY on Tuesday nights on Bravo.
