RHOSLC Star Heather Gay Regrets Inviting Britani Bateman Into Group and Calls Out Her Hypocrisy

Heather Gay regretted inviting Britani Bateman into her friend group after watching her behavior at Mary Cosby‘s breakfast play out on the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

Following the episode, which saw Britani arriving late to Mary’s home and lashing out at Angie Katsanevas, 51, who had gifted the practicing Mormon a bottle of wine at her prayer night, Heather, 50, admitted to questioning her decision as Britani explained her late arrival and slammed Angie as “tasteless” for ignoring the rules of her religion.

“You know when you invite a friend to the group and then you start regretting inviting a friend to the group? This was my moment,” Heather noted on the November 20 episode of the RHOSLC: After Show.

Equally as upset about Britani’s late arrival, which she blamed on a “big development fire,” and the antics that followed, was Mary, 52.

“I’m like, ‘Why do I have to look at her?’ She’s like, ‘Mary, I want to let you know that I want to invite you over to my house for tea.’ And I said, ‘No, that’s not gonna ever happen.’ I only invited her because I wanted her to know I’m not poor,” Mary explained.

“I felt like it was impolite, but I couldn’t help it,” Britani insisted.

For her event, Mary had gifts for the ladies: personalized fragrance bottles from Tiffany’s. However, she never gave the items to them due to their lackluster attire.

“[Lisa Barlow] wore my outfit that I wore on [Watch What Happens Live], which was a no-no, and then she goes, ‘The difference is, Mary, you got yours off the rack, and I got mine off the runway.’ No, the difference is I wore it before you did. Why are you wearing it again? [Bronwyn Newport] nailed it. [Meredith Marks] looked like Flintstone. Boo [to Heather] and Boo-er [to Britani].”

During another segment of the RHOSLC: After Show, the cast reacted to the drama between Britani and Angie.

“Britani comes in so hot, so inappropriately dressed, so f*cking late, and just wants to dump a problem with everyone at the table,” Bronwyn, 39, recalled.

Namely, Britani targeted Angie.

“I would never show up at a Greek Orthodox event doing something completely against the religion and just kind of fragrantly just throw it out there,” Britani noted. “She walked in, like, all proud with a bottle of wine. I thought that was kind of a little tasteless.”

According to Angie, she chose to bring wine to Britani’s event because she “loves her wine.”

“The two times I’ve been around Britani, she’s been drinking … So I thought, ‘Well, I’ve never been to her house.’ I brought her a gift bag of products from the salon and a bottle of wine,” she explained.

While Meredith, 52, didn’t see what was so inappropriate about the gift, Heather said, “It’s like me showing up at your Bat Mitzvah with a giant ham and some bacon in a paper towel and saying, ‘Mazel.’”

Still, Heather continued, Britani’s version of Mormonism is complicated.

“Britani does drink, so to suddenly take an opportunity publicly to shame Angie, and say that Angie was inappropriate when all Angie did was respond in kind to the version of Britani that she’s presented to our friend group, I think was totally out of line,” she noted.

Heather then acknowledged that there was a level of hypocrisy that was “rampant in Utah.”

“We’re drinking in the back rooms. That’s why the house she rented had a secret bar. Because when the friends and neighbors come over, you just have a library, but when they leave, you flip the door and you have this speakeasy. It’s just this double standard, and a lot of people would say hypocrisy. And I think Britani totally exemplified that by criticizing Angie for not reading between the lines. Why is it Angie’s responsibility to keep up the facade that Britani’s projecting to her community?” she wondered.

Meanwhile, Whitney Rose, 38, said that the wine feud was both “hypocritical” and “laughable.”

“She’s literally drinking wine with us constantly, so for Angie to take over a housewarming gift that’s wine makes perfect sense, but I also understand the lens through which Britani’s living her life,” she reasoned. “She still goes to church, but you can’t go on TV and drink alcohol.”

“She’s sensitive because she’s hiding that from people,” Bronwyn replied. “Angie bringing her a bottle of wine was not her co-signing that she drinks wine. She could’ve just said, ‘Thank you so much,’ and put it to the side and kept it moving. The more she talks about it, the more she draws attention to the fact that she is drinking and not telling people and is a huge hypocrite.”

As for Lisa, 49, she felt Angie was in the wrong.

“There’s an etiquette if you grow up in Utah, you would never go to a family home evening and bring liquor. Like, I own it. Even if I knew they drank it, I wouldn’t bring it to a religious event,” she stated.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season five airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
