RHOSLC’s Britani Bateman: Acting and Singing Career Explored

Britani Bateman is one of three newbies on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5. And while she’s had a lot of screen time, there’s only so much viewers learned about her so far in her debut season. Well, in the premiere, she admitted to stealing extra rolls as a kid, which set off her feud with returning Housewife Mary Cosby. We also know she’s estranged from her children, which she’s discussed in one-on-one scenes with her friend Heather Gay.

But mostly, when she’s onscreen, Britani talks about Jared Osmond. Whether that’s a choice on her part, or the editors, we don’t know. However, there’s more to Britani than her former relationship best friendship with a member of the famous Osmond family. As it turns out, Britani has an accomplished career as a singer and actress. And it might explain the more dramatic tendencies we’ve seen from her on RHOSLC.

RHOSLC star Britani Bateman’s Broadway days

Many RHOSLC viewers saw a new side of Britani thanks to her social media. In late October, she shared a video on her Instagram that got lots of attention. “My dad may have snuck a camera to a Broadway show a few times over the years,” she captioned it, asking followers, “Who knows this song and show?!”

For those who don’t know, the song is “I Still Believe” from the musical Miss Saigon. As it turns out, Britani played the role of Ellen in the National Broadway Tour in 1999. It’s not her only impressive musical theater credit. She also played Nancy alongside Christopher Lloyd in a production of Oliver. And she won the lead role of Genevieve in an English stage adaptation of Umbrellas of Cherbourg.

In the comments of the Miss Saigon video, someone wrote, “That explains why you’re so dramatic-you’re a theater kid!” Most commenters were stunned by Britani’s talent. Several asked why Real Housewives of Salt Lake City spent so much time on her dysfunctional relationship when this side of her is far more interesting.

As for the man behind the camera, RHOSLC viewers met Britani’s dad in the October 30 episode. He appeared at Britani’s church gathering, where she also showed off her beautiful singing voice.

Britani was a Disney Princess (or two)

Jared’s famous uncle Donny Osmond may not be too impressed with his nephew’s newfound reality TV fame. But Donny and Britani have something else in common. They’ve both lent their considerable pipes to iconic Disney songs.

In Britani’s case, the song was “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. After she graduated from Bringham Young University, Britani signed a contract to perform at Tokyo Disney. During her time in Japan, Britani played Ariel in the Little Mermaid stage show. But that’s not the only iconic Disney Princess she got to bring to life. As she shared in another Instagram post, Britani had a stint performing as Belle in the Disney Parks’ Beauty and the Beast stage show as well.

In addition to her stage credits, the RHOSLC newbie also had parts in movies and TV shows. Britani showed off her acting and singing skills in the ABC Family (since renamed FreeForm) original movie Mistle-Tones. It was part of the channel’s 25 Days of Christmas lineup back in 2012. The TV movie starred 90210’s Tori Spelling and Sister Sister’s Tia Mowery as dueling singers. Britani played the character Staci, best friend to Tori Spelling’s Marci (so many names that end in the letter “i”). According to the IMDb page, the movie was filmed on location in Salt Lake City.

While she was in Japan, Britani appeared in a police drama called Bayside Shakedown. Another one of Britani’s earliest roles was Kelly Powers, the female lead in 2003’s The RM. Like many of her film and TV credits listed on IMDb, the plot of this indie movie revolves around the Church of Later Day Saints. The RM stars Will Swenson, who is now a major name on Broadway. Like Britani, Will also appeared in the 90s Broadway tour of Miss Saigon.

According to her bio, Britani also appeared in commercials for Denny’s, Northwest Airlines, and Nu Skin. She also provided voiceover for First National Bank and ESPN.

These days, the RHOSLC friend of also has a career outside of the arts. As we learned before her Bravo debut, Britani currently works in real estate development. She is also the co-owner of PURE Productions. However, she founded the company with her now ex-husband, John Scott Underwood, who she filed a lawsuit with disturbing accusations against.

Judging by her social media, Britani isn’t letting her musical talents go to waste. She’s posted about being in the recording studio and continues to support the arts. If RHOSLC co-star Lisa Barlow really does record an album, maybe she and Britani can do a duet. Of course, they’d have to get past the drama over Lisa texting Jared from Britani’s phone.
