RHOSLC’s Britani Bateman Sued by Former Mother-In-Law for $100K

According to alleged documentation, Britani Bateman is getting sued by her former mother-in-law. Sandra Underwood brought forward the suit after claiming that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star allegedly owes her a hefty sum of money.

Britani and John Scott Underwood were married for seven years. They finalized their divorce in October 2023, but the strife didn’t end there. She’s already accused him of emptying their joint bank account in the past. As well as alienating her from their shared entrepreneurial ventures. Then there was the $2.5 million dollar lawsuit. So what are the details of Britani’s latest financial drama?

RHOSLC star Britani Bateman is accused of owing former mother-in-law $100,000

Sandra is now taking Britani to court. She hopes that the RHOSLC favorite will be forced to return $100,000 that she allegedly owes. Page Six reported that Sandra’s attorney filed on May 6. She accused her former daughter-in-law of using funds that were deposited into a family trust for “her own personal benefit.” The complaint suggested that as such, Britani “has been unjustly enriched.”

“Britani willfully, maliciously and through intentionally fraudulent conduct, also converted Plaintiff’s funds and now refuses to repay the funds,” it reads.

Sandra legal team previously reached out to Britani trying to resolve the matter out of court. In March, she sent a letter to the RHOSLC newbie requesting the return of the funds to the trust. However, “to date [she has] not yet received the return of my money.”

Sandra had recently sold her home

Sandra had recently sold her West Valley Utah home for $338,889.31. The paperwork claimed that once the home was sold, Britani allegedly started hitting up her former mother-in-law for money. “At the urging of Britani” Sandra agreed to deposit $100,000. However, the understanding was that she could “request it to be withdrawn at anytime.” Further, that it would “be returned without any objection” by Britani.

The trust in question was created in 2019 by Britani’s father Melvin Merrill Martin. Britani and her mother were appointed as trustees. After Britani’s mother passed away, John took over as successor trustee of the Integrity Trust.

Sandra’s legal team argued that due to her medical needs and “limited income,” it’s imperative that she is returned the money deposited. $1,600 is “not sufficient” in lieu of Sandra’s rising medical costs.

“As Britani knows, Sandra is in her 80s and as she has aged, her cost of living has gone up mostly because of health issues which most elderly people experience,” the lawyer argued.

Britani is requested to return the $100,000 “plus interest at the statutory rate prescribed by law” just “out of simple decency and morality.” Sandra is also looking to be reimbursed for legal fees.
