Keep your eyes out for Rick Tocchet and the New York Rangers.

Now that the Rangers are looking for a new head coach and Tocchet’s contract is expiring with the Vancouver Canucks, we could have a match made in heaven.

It’s unclear if Tocchet even wants to leave Vancouver, but if he does become available, you best believe Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury will be interested.

“The Canucks coach interviewed for the Rangers job that went to Gallant four years ago so Drury is familiar with him,” Arthur Staple of The Athletic wrote. “Tocchet’s work in Vancouver, where current Ranger J.T. Miller was a fan, has probably helped his standing around the league. The Canucks reportedly want to keep Tocchet, but the 61-year-old may be looking for a different option.

“Many have connected him to the Philadelphia Flyers job, but the Rangers might interest him as well. Tocchet had to handle plenty of drama in Vancouver; drama is the Rangers’ default setting these days, so maybe he’d prefer someplace a bit calmer.”

While Tocchet indicated he’s interested in continuing to coach the Canucks, he certainly didn’t commit to a future in Vancouver as he seemed to keep his options open with his recent comments.

“Of course you want to be back here, but there's a process you have to go through,” Tocchet said. “Obviously, there's a timeframe. But right now for me, there's a process I’ve got to go through with (team president) Jim (Rutherford) and (GM) Patrik (Allvin), and that's really where it's at.”

Some other coaches that have been linked to the Rangers include David Carle, Jay Leach, Michael Peca, Joel Quenneville, Mike Sullivan, John Tortorella, and Jay Woodcroft.
