Although 9-1-1: Lone Star has answered its last call, Rob Lowe is ready to get back in the field as Captain Owen Strand.
The 6x Golden Globe nominee recently addressed his potential return to the character on the upcoming Nashville spinoff, for which his brother Chad Lowe serves as an executive producer and director.
“Well, I’ll have to ask Chad Lowe, my brother. See, all my family are gatekeepers to my own future business now,” joked Rob to Decider after starring with his son John Owen Lowe in Netflix’s 2023-’24 series Unstable.Rob starred as Capt. Strand of Austin’s Fire Engine 126 for the Lone Star‘s five-season run, which ended on Fox in February. Chad also appeared on the spinoff as Owen’s estranged, dying brother Robert Strand in Seasons 3-5, in addition to directing several episodes of both Lone Star and the parent series, which premiered in 2018.
“Chad Lowe is the executive producer, director of 9-1-1: Nashville. And so I’m just waiting for my phone to ring,” added Rob. “I mean, you know, I hired him on Lone Star. I think turnabout is fair play.”

The series finale of the Ryan Murphy-created procedural saw Capt. Strand help the 126 save Austin from an asteroid and a nuclear disaster before bidding farewell to his team and returning to the NYFD.
Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani spoke to Deadline about the finale, noting that he hopes the characters will be revived on another show. “The reason why everybody’s alive is, that would be great,” he said.
“There’d be nothing better than to have to revisit these characters in whatever context where they go to one of these cities or whether that city comes to them or LA, whatever it is,” added Raisani.
Premiering this fall, the cast of 9-1-1: Nashville includes Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Hailey Kilgore, Juani Feliz, Michael Provost and Hunter McVey.
