Wide receiver Robbie Chosen is back with the San Francisco 49ers.
Also known as Robby Anderson, Robbie Anderson and Chosen Anderson, the 32-year-old veteran is now on his second stint with the Niners, who've spent considerable effort this preseason shuffling the back end of their wide receiver depth chart during training camp.
Injuries to key players like Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing have thinned out the positional depth, which has led to an array of different transactions, including the re-onboarding of Chosen just days before San Francisco kicks off its 2025 exhibition campaign against the Denver Broncos.
🙏 Thank you God & Thankful for the opportunity with a Championship Culture

Chosen's return to the Bay Area comes almost a year to the day after he first signed with the 49ers, helping bolster their depth chart in 2024. Yet that tenure didn't last long, as the well-traveled receiver who once boasted a 1,000-yard campaign with the Carolina Panthers back in 2020 ended up being part of the Niners' pre-Week 1 roster cuts.
Apparently, at least as suggested in a recent post from Chosen on Instagram, he could have remained with San Francisco after being released, likely as a practice squad addition. But he opted to head out to South Florida and sign with the Miami Dolphins' practice squad instead.
It seems as if Chosen doesn't look back favorably on that decision.
"I could have stayed in San Fran instead of go back to Miami [sic]," Chosen posted on social media. "I made a family 1st decision and I wont say a mistake or regret it was all in Gods hands & his plans."
Chosen, who played nine games for the Dolphins in 2023, was promoted up from Miami's practice squad for two games in 2024 and had one catch for 5 yards on four targets. But the tone of his social media post suggests there were some issues with his role under head coach Mike McDaniel down in South Beach.
In light of other comments from ex-49ers who've played for McDaniel out in Miami, it might not be the biggest shocker to see Chosen take his own subtle jab at the Dolphins now, too.
No one knows Chosen's true sentiments about Miami except for the receiver himself, although it would appear as if he's not exactly looking back favorably on choosing the Dolphins over the Niners a year ago.
