Roman Kemp has revealed why he would prevent his parents Martin and Shirlie from taking part in Strictly Come Dancing

The One Show presenter Roman Kemp has opened up about the major reason why he would stop his parents, Martin and Shirlie, from participating in Strictly Come Dancing.
During a conversation on his podcast FFS! My Dad Is Martin Kemp, Roman expressed support for his mum to try out I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, but was adamant about preventing his parents from trying their luck on Strictly due to the infamous 'curse'.
He told listeners: "You can't do Strictly, I'd ban you both from doing Strictly, because of the curse."
The supposed 'curse' Roman referred to is notorious for putting pressure on personal relationships of several celebrities and professional dancers following their stint on the BBC show.

Shirlie Kemp, however, doesn’t share her son's concerns and confidently said she doesn't believe it would be a problem, saying: "No, I don't believe in the Strictly curse, not with me and dad."
She reassured her family by stating she could easily dismiss such worries, concluding that it wouldn't influence her: "I could absolutely ignore that, it wouldn't affect me."
On the other hand, Martin admitted he would struggle with seeing his wife partnered with another dancer, confessing: "I would get jealous if I saw you in Strictly, getting swung around by somebody else."
Meanwhile, Shirlie has expressed less concern about her husband Martin, saying: "Can I just say something? I don't think dad is a good enough dancer to last that long in Strictly, so that's why I wouldn't get jealous."
While the Kemps have shared their thoughts on the infamous Strictly 'curse', over the years various contestants seem to have found themselves entangled within it.
Notably, during 2018's addition, comedian Seann Walsh and his dance partner Katya Jones caused a stir when they were spotted kissing, even though Seann was already in a relationship with his now former girlfriend Rebecca Humphries.
In another high-profile case from 2013, Rachel Riley of Countdown fame split from a previous partner and eventually tied the knot with Pasha Kovalev, whom she danced with on Strictly, after they finished sixth in the competition.
Adding her thoughts on the 'curse', Strictly's Claudia Winkleman spoke to Digital Spy: "I understand, it's very intense."
She further commented: "I don't believe in the curse, but I think lots of people have come in single and they might have met somebody or had a little romance."
Following Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell's historic win last season, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the 23rd series of the cherished dance show this coming September.
