Rookie Mykel Williams Excited to Learn From Two 49ers Mentors

The San Francisco 49ers take a lot of pride in their group on the defensive side of the ball.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

And he has quite the team around him to mentor him.

On a recent episode of Up & Adams with Kay Adams, the Niners rookie talked a bit about the people he has teaching him, specifically two people, including superstar edge rusher Nick Bosa.

"Bosa came in and helped me tremendously," Williams said. "He’s a great teammate, telling me little stuff about angles and timing and hands. He’s really been adding to my game."

He also spoke very highly of returning 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

"Playing for Saleh and in his scheme and his system, where he gives us so much freedom to go do our natural talents, what we’re supposed to do... It allows me to go be the pass rusher and the run stopper that I can be," Williams said. "It allows me to play to my strengths."

In his time at Georgia, Williams did not really get to show his ability to get to the quarterback, as the defensive scheme there didn't allow him. But Saleh will be the complete opposite.

The rookie will also not see that many double teams, as opponents will be too worries about what Bosa is going to do on the other side of the line.

Williams is one of the most intriguing players in this year's draft, and he couldn't have landed in a better situation than he did in San Francisco.
