Sabres Have Competition to Land Top Target

The Sabres will need to work quickly if they hope to land this Flyers forward.

Scott Laughton

Nearing the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres were heavily linked to Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton. While a move did not come to fruition during the season, they have been connected to him again early on this offseason.

However, with Laughton being an impactful third-line center who chips in offensively, plays a steady game defensively, and is immensely physical, he is understandably generating interest from other clubs. One of them just so happens to be in their division.

David Pagnotta recently reported that the Ottawa Senators are among the teams interested in acquiring Laughton. In addition, he noted that the Philadelphia Flyers are connected to Senators star defenseman Jakob Chychrun, so there could be a possible match there.

It would certainly sting to see the Senators end up acquiring Laughton, as the Oakville native is exactly the kind of player that the Sabres need right now. In addition, like the Sabres, the Senators are also looking to become competitive immediately and break their long playoff drought.

With this development, the Sabres should step up their efforts to acquire Laughton. Besides being a solid two-way player, he is respected for his leadership skills. The Sabres would benefit from having a veteran like him on their roster because of this.

We must wait and see what happens with Laughton this offseason from here, but the sweepstakes are clearly heating up.
