The Buffalo Sabres should keep an eye on this forward during the 2024-25 campaign.
The Buffalo Sabres have had a busy offseason, but they have yet to add a true top-six winger to their roster. With it now being close to September, it will be harder for the Sabres to fulfill this goal before the start of the season.
If the Sabres do not add another proven top-six winger before the end of the summer, they still could during the regular season. This is especially the case if they end up taking that next step and are in the playoff hunt early.
Due to this, one player who the Sabres should have on their wish list heading into the 2024-25 campaign should be Anaheim Ducks forward Frank Vatrano.
Vatrano, 30, is a player who has generated buzz in the rumor mill for quite some time. This has the chance to continue this upcoming campaign, as he is entering the final year of his contract. With the Ducks rebuilding, they could be open to the prospect of trading the East Longmeadow, Massachusetts native if they are out of the playoff hunt and Vatrano does not sign an extension.
If the Sabres acquired Vatrano, he would be a significant addition to their top six. The 5-foot-11 forward is coming off an excellent season, posting new career highs with 37 goals, 23 assists, and 60 points in 82 games. In addition, he also took his physicality to a new level, posting a career-high 156 hits.
If the Sabres landed Vatrano, he would provide them with an impactful scorer who plays a gritty game. His scoring ability would also give the Sabres' power play another strong weapon.
Nevertheless, if Vatrano is made available during this season, it wouldn't be particularly surprising if the Sabres are in the running for his services.
