Sabres Have Target in Ex-Canadiens Forward

This former Montreal Canadiens forward could be a decent depth addition for the Buffalo Sabres.

The Buffalo Sabres are looking to add to their forward depth before the start of the season. While adding a top-six forward is an absolute necessity, it also would not hurt for them to browse the free-agent market for more depth options.

One free agent who the Sabres should keep an eye on is former Montreal Canadiens forward Tanner Pearson.

Pearson, 31, had a down year with the Canadiens in 2023-24, posting five goals and 13 points in 54 games. Injury trouble played a factor in this, but when looking at his past success, he could be a potential bounce-back candidate if given a chance. Perhaps Buffalo, a team that could use more secondary production and experience, could offer him that.

If the Sabres added Pearson, he would provide them with another solid, experienced option for their bottom six. At worst, he would be a serviceable extra forward to slot into the lineup when injuries inevitably arise during the year. Thus, he could make sense as a bargain signing or PTO candidate for the Sabres.

Ultimately, it would not hurt for the Sabres to add another depth forward, and a player like Pearson could make sense because of this.
