Sabres Roster Exodus: Where Did They Go?

Eight free agents signed with other clubs this week

The Buffalo Sabres made a sizable transition of their roster, adding forwards Beck Malenstyn, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Sam Lafferty, Jason Zucker, and defenseman Dennis Gilbert at the NHL Draft and in free agency this week. The club also saw a number of players depart the organization as free agents.

Here is where those players ended up:

Jeff Skinner – 1 year, $3 million deal with Edmonton – Skinner should get a chance to play in a top-six role with on a line with either Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.

Victor Olofsson – 1 year, $1.075 million deal with Vegas – Olofsson could get the opportunity to play higher in the lineup and on the power play with the Golden Knights. Something he was denied in his final year with the Sabres.

Zemgus Girgensons – 3 years, $2.55 million deal with Tampa Bay – There was mutual interest in Girgensons returning, but the Sabres were interested in a more short-term deal.

Eric Robinson – 1 year, $950,000 deal with Carolina

Tyson Jost – 1 year, $775,000 deal with Carolina

Riley Stillman – 1 year, $775,000 two-way deal with Carolina

The Hurricanes likely see the speedy Robinson as a defensive specialist to play in their bottom six and hope that Jost can recapture some of the success he enjoyed early in his career with Colorado.

Brandon Biro – 1 year, $775,000 two-way deal with Seattle

The 26-year-old had three solid seasons in Rochester and got no real opportunity at an NHL job. That may change with the Kraken.

Eric Comrie – 2 years, $1.65 million deal with Winnipeg

Comrie returns to a familiar spot, backing up Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck, but will have to beat out fellow free agent signee Kaapo Kahkonen.
