The Sabres should keep an eye on this Canucks free agent.
The Buffalo Sabres' bottom six is set for a makeover this offseason. Zemgus Girgensons, Tyson Jost, Victor Olofsson, and Eric Robinson are all not expected to be back. Because of this, forward spots are available on Buffalo's roster heading into the summer.
When looking at this year's free agency, there are some intriguing bottom-six forward options for the Sabres. One specific player who they should seriously consider making a push for is Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Lafferty.
Lafferty, 29, had a solid season with the Canucks in 2023-24, posting a career-high 13 goals to go along with 24 points and 191 hits in 79 games. Overall, the Pennsylvania native chipped in decent offense and plenty of physicality in a bottom-six role for the Canucks. The Sabres could undoubtedly use a player like that on their roster right now.
Another big reason why Lafferty would be a great addition to the Sabres' bottom six is his versatility. The 2014 fourth-round pick can play all three forward positions, so he would fit anywhere in their lineup. Along with that, he plays a solid defensive game, which means he would also be an option for the Sabres' penalty kill.
Ultimately, with the Sabres needing more secondary production and grit, Lafferty would be a good option for them if he hits the market. We will need to wait and see if they try to sign him this offseason from here.
