Sabres sign Jordan Greenway to two-year contract extension

On Wednesday, the Buffalo Sabres signed winger Jordan Greenway to a two-year contract extension. The deal, set to kick in next season, will have an AAV of $4 million through the 2026-27 campaign.

Per the terms of the contract, Greenway has a modified no-trade clause. Greenway will be required to submit a five-team no-trade list.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic was the first to report the signing.

Greenway is in the final season of his three-year contract that he signed while as a member of the Minnesota Wild in January 2022. That deal has a cap hit of $3 million with a modified no-trade clause for this season in which Greenway had to submit to an eight-team no-trade list.

The 28-year-old has had a bumpy 2024-25 season. He underwent surgery to repair a mid-body injury in mid-December, which kept him out of the lineup for 23 games. In his six appearances since his return, Greenway has registered just one assist. In 26 games thus far, the Canton, New York native has notched three goals and five assists for eight points. He last found the back of the net on Nov. 7 in a 6-1 win over the New York Rangers.

Greenway has earned a reputation as a respectable power forward. Someone who has a decent scoring touch but isn’t afraid of getting physical. His playing style made him a staple with the Wild, where he spent the first four-plus seasons as a full-time NHLer. He was traded to Buffalo at the deadline two years ago for two draft picks.

Greenway was taken by Minnesota in the second round, 50th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft. He made his league debut during the 2017-18 campaign but was on the main roster full-time the following year.

In 427 NHL appearances, he has posted 55 goals and 104 assists for 159 points, including seven points in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with the Wild.

According to CapWages, the Sabres have 24 of a possible 50 NHL contracts signed for next season.

The Sabres (24-30-6) currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, 12 points back of the last Wild Card spot.
