Saints Are Signing Veteran QB

The New Orleans Saints’ season took another tumble.

In the win over the New York Giants, Derek Carr suffered a potentially season-ending injury.

They had to dig deep into the free agent market to find another signal-caller.

Per his announcement on social media (via Adam Schefter), veteran QB Ben DiNucci and the Saints have reached an agreement.

DiNucci didn’t specify whether he would join the team’s practice squad or the 53-man roster.

Even so, they have an available spot on the practice squad, so it’s safe to assume that he will join them in that capacity for now.

DiNucci was a seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys back in 2020.

He made three appearances (one start) for the Cowboys as a rookie, but he hasn’t played in a regular-season game since those days.

He’s bounced around the league, getting stints with the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills, and he most recently played for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons.

For the time being, it’s safe to assume that Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener will get the nod when the 5-8 Saints square off against the Washington Commanders in Week 15.

Still, this team might have to make a tough decision about their quarterback situation sooner rather than later.

Dennis Allen isn’t there anymore and he was Carr’s biggest supporter.

Carr hasn’t fared well, has struggled with injuries, and isn’t getting any younger, so perhaps there will be an open competition for the QB1 spot next season.
