The New Orleans Saints have had their fair share of franchise cornerstones. On both sides of the football, guys like Drew Brees, Cameron Jordan, Marques Colston, Willie Roaf, among others, stand out. One of those guys mentioned aired some details from last season recently, and social media has been discussing it plenty.
Cam Jordan discusses recent doubts in New Orleans
On a recent podcast appearance alongside former Saints offensive tackle Terron Armstead, Jordan revealed that his frustrations nearly boiled over during last season. He was officially fed up with the Saints' performances.
“There was a game last year that I walked off into this tunnel, and I made a phone call, and then the next day we released probably the worst D-line coach I ever had.”-- Cam Jordan
Jordan's play has certainly taken a decline over the past couple of years, but it never felt like his passion for the Saints has ever seemed to waver. These comments about the state of the team last year really make you consider how frustrated a multitude of veterans potentially were, including Demario Davis and Alvin Kamara.
The interaction that Jordan mentions in the video above could have certainly been following the game right before former head coach Dennis Allen was fired. Todd Grantham, the defensive line coach at the time, was also transitioned to a new role on staff. Jordan didn't confirm those details, though.
It is also worth noting that Jordan did seem to play better once Darren Rizzi took over as head coach and other staff adjustments were made during last season. Jordan's snaps increased notably, and he was more impactful against both the run and pass. That being said, he still did finish the season with just four sacks. New Orleans is probably hoping for more production from him in a new role this year.
Jordan could be playing his final season in the NFL this season, so there's plenty of reason to believe he will play with his hair on fire. Not to mention, the defensive staff looks a lot different - with Brandon Staley at the helm as defensive coordinator.
