The New Orleans Saints have now come to agreements with multiple fan favorite players to help out the team's wallets for this offseason. After Tyrann Mathieu worked out a deal last week, veteran pass rusher Cameron Jordan has done the same with New Orleans.

According to Nick Underhill, Cam Jordan's new contract dramatically lowers his cap number. His new deal lowers his cap number to below $10 million. Previously, the number was $20M against the cap for New Orleans.

What does that show from Jordan? Commitment and hope.

Jordan is committed to New Orleans and wants to see them get back on track before he retires. Accordingly, he is allowing the team to give him a new deal that helps them be able to make other moves around their roster to bolster talent and depth on both sides of the football.

Early estimates included the Saints reducing Jordan’s $12.5 million base salary by about half, saving an amount closer to $6 million on the year. However, to go beyond that proves a team-first approach by Jordan, who has made it clear that he wants to be a lifer, starting and finishing his career with the Saints. -- Ross Jackson

Jordan discussed the negotiation process with the Saints and his emotions throughout. He did not want to leave the city and the fans.

“This is where I should be. My contract says I got another year on it, so unless they cut me, I’m not leaving.” -- Jordan via Off the Edge podcast

Jordan basically relayed that he was only going to go elsewhere if the Saints forced him to do so. Outside of that, the veteran pass rusher would find a way to stay with the Saints. Both sides agreed that was the best route.

For New Orleans, they are hoping they get the sort of play from Jordan that they got in the back half of last season. He struggled during the final times of the Dennis Allen era, but his play notably improved once the former HC departed.
