Saints could lose all of their top tight ends this offseason as they reshape roster

The New Orleans Saints have a lot of decisions to make as they reshape the roster this offseason, and they could be saying good bye to their top tight ends.

The NFL offseason is young, but it’s already clear the 2025 New Orleans Saints could look drastically different than the 2024 version of the team. That change has already started to take place with the coaching staff, as Kellen Moore has been named head coach, Doug Nussmeier offensive coordinator, and Brandon Staley defensive coordinator, as well as several other assistant coaches.

Soon, the team will start to reshape the roster, with major decisions pending about some of the team’s key players. Of course, the quarterback position is on the docket, but it’s just one of the many groups New Orleans will evaluate this offseason as the team works to get better and younger.

One position group that could see a significant overhaul is the tight end room. With Juwan Johnson entering free agency, and Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau both considered cut candidates, there’s a chance New Orleans could lose its top three tight ends this offseason.

Future with Saints uncertain for Taysom Hill, Juwan Johnson, and Foster Moreau

Johnson will be an unrestricted free agent, so he’ll ultimately have the final say on if he’s back in New Orleans or not. After establishing himself as the team’s top tight end in the last five seasons, including a career-best 50 receptions for 548 yards in 2024, the team should definitely want him back. However, free agency is often about the best deal, and best move for a player’s career.

Hill and Moreau, on the other hand, both have one year left on their respective deals. While the cap-challenged Saints could be looking for any and every cap casualty, it wouldn’t make sense to release them with Johnson entering free agency, but it also wouldn’t be surprising if they were cut.

If all three guys do end up ultimately becoming free agents this offseason, the Saints will have to quickly rebuild the tight end room, and that process would likely start with Dallin Holker, who’s coming off a rookie season where he saw 73 offensive snaps.
