Saints' Dennis Allen names starting QB for Week 8 against Chargers if Derek Carr misses another game

The New Orleans Saints do not currently have a quarterback controversy, amid Derek Carr's oblique injury situation. After a tough loss and offensive performance in Week 7, some fans clamored for a change at the QB position.

Spencer Rattler struggled behind a horrific offensive line performance, and Jake Haener did lead a late-game TD drive once the game was already decided.

Regardless, Dennis Allen made a statement on Monday afternoon, regarding their plan at quarterback for Week 8 against Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers

Rattler remains starting QB for Saints

Allen remains confident in the rookie. He stood up for Rattler, noting that they've liked a lot of things that he has done in his two starts so far. Allen also pointed out that the rookie does need to take care of the ball a bit more consistently, too, though.

The young QB definitely had his troubles in Week 7, fumbling twice. His lack of talent around him at wide receiver certainly made it more difficult, though.

The Saints could not push the ball downfield whatsoever without Chris Olave or Rashid Shaheed. Bub Means and Mason Tipton put up some career-best stat lines, but it was not nearly enough to stay competitive on offense. They simply had not had many reps coming into that matchup.

Early injury updates for Week 8

New Orleans expects to get Taysom Hill back this week after missing a handful of games due to injury. Olave remains in concussion protocol as of Monday, according to Allen.

Rattler did sustain a hip pointer late in the loss to Denver, but it is not expected to affect his availability this week. Expect him to get the start for New Orleans against the Chargers.
