Morning Break: Saints Evaluate 2025 NFL Draft Needs

As the 2025 NFL Draft draws closer, the New Orleans Saints are hard at work evaluating their roster and identifying their biggest needs. With a fresh start under new head coach Kellen Moore, the franchise is entering a new era—one that could be shaped significantly by the choices they make in April.

The Saints have made a series of calculated moves during free agency, but several gaps remain—especially at quarterback, wide receiver, and on the defensive front. After parting ways with veteran depth and leaning into youth at key positions, the team now finds itself with a chance to reset the foundation.

Kellen Moore has been vocal about building around a balanced, dynamic offense. That means protecting the quarterback will be paramount—making offensive line depth, particularly at left tackle and interior guard, a likely early target in the draft. With veteran Ryan Ramczyk’s health uncertain, finding an insurance plan is crucial.

On the defensive side, the Saints are also eyeing a new leader on the line. The pass rush faltered in 2024, and the team will likely prioritize a disruptive edge rusher in the early rounds. There’s also a growing need at linebacker and safety, where depth and long-term replacements are top concerns.

Perhaps the biggest question mark remains the quarterback position. Despite Geno Smith agreeing to a two-year extension, the team may still look to develop a young signal-caller behind him. Several prospects—like Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders—have been loosely linked to New Orleans.

With 10 total picks, including multiple Day 2 selections, the Saints are in prime position to address multiple needs. What they do with them could define the Moore era—and determine if the Saints are ready to return to contention in the NFC South.
