The New Orleans Saints have already made some noise this offseason, but the biggest move could be yet to come. After hiring new head coach Kellen Moore and clearing cap space, the Saints are eyeing free-agent veteran edge rusher Matthew Judon to add another boost to their defense.
Big Potential Addition
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently connected the Saints to Judon, who is coming off a solid 2024 season with the Atlanta Falcons. Despite re-signing veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan and adding Chase Young, the Saints are still in need of more edge-rush depth after a lackluster 2024 campaign where they tallied just 39 sacks.
"Matthew Judon would be a logical fit with New Orleans," wrote Knox. "He recorded 5.5 sacks with the Falcons last season and has familiarity with the Saints' new defensive line coach Jay Rodgers, who coached Judon in Atlanta."
Saints’ Need for More Defensive Line Help
With the Saints ranking among the worst teams in the league in rushing the quarterback, adding a proven edge rusher like Judon could be exactly what the team needs. The Saints' defensive backfield also remains a concern, and increased pressure on the quarterback could make life much easier for the secondary.
With the NFL Draft approaching and the Saints holding the No. 9 pick, there’s still plenty of opportunity for the team to make strategic moves in free agency that could bolster their defense even more.
