Saints have no primetime games for the first time in 25 years

The New Orleans Saints have hit an all time low. For the first time in a quarter century, the Saints won't have a single game on primetime television. The Saints along with the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans are the only three teams without a single primetime game.

This is yet another sign of the rebuild the Saints are entering into. New coach, new quarterback, and now the league is telling them they aren't worthy of national exposure. Honestly, this may be for the best. It may be a struggle as the Saints try to find their way. Being that team in primetime games is a recipe for embarrassment.

The Saints are used to not playing on Sunday Night Football. The last time they played a night game on Sunday was 2021. In that matchup, New Orleans defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-0. Apparently, the Sunday Night Football crew didn't like the low scoring affair. They haven't invited the Saints back since.

The streak of not playing on Sunday night increases to four years, but as a consolation, the NFL decided to give the 18 games on Sundays. There is a slight bit of variation. Every game will be on Sunday, but five of them will be air in the afternoon slot

Last time the Saints didn't have any primetime games

The last time the Saints failed to log a primetime game was the 2000 season. The Saints were going through a transitional period at that time too. Mike Ditka was fired after a 3-13 season, and the Saints brought in Jim Haslett. The result of that change was a 10 win season, the first double digit win season since 1992.

Hopefully, making the move from Dennis Allen to Kellen Moore yields similar results. The Saints are four years removed from winning 10+ games. The organization doesn't want to go another four years. The Saints have one of the easier strength of schedule, so the team may be in line for a turnaround if they can show improvement from last year.
