The offseason is filled with discussion. Some of it is productive and makes sense. Some of it is just a waste of time. Trade rumors surrounding New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave fell in the latter category earlier in the offseason.
Teams around the league may have checked in on Olave's availability, but the Saints were never thinking of moving on from the wideout. Their new head coach made a clear statement regarding the rumors this week, too.
In a press conference following an OTAs practice for New Orleans, their head coach made it clear that the top wide receiver for the Saints is not on the trade block. He said that no one should worry too much about the trade rumors surrounding Olave.
This should not shock anybody. Moore has remained committed to the young wideout since taking the job for New Orleans. He believes in Olave and expects him to be productive this season in his offense.
Moore talked about the baseless Olave rumors earlier in the offseason as well. He made it clear that Olave was going to be an important piece his offense this season.
“Chris is a phenomenal player. He has had a huge impact on this team. He’s going to have a huge impact (again).” -- Moore at the annual league meetings
Trading Olave never made any sense for the team - or Moore - as a matter of fact. The Saints are attempting to figure out the future of their quarterback position. Moving on from the top WR in the offense would only hinder the development of Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler, or both.
Luckily for Saints fans, Olave isn't going anywhere. We will see if he can stay healthy and prove to be a top wide receiver around the NFL this season in a new scheme.
