Mickey Loomis is unpredictable. The New Orleans Saints general manager is always trying to make moves during the NFL Draft, and you can never count him out when it comes to a trade getting done.
Recent reports point to a change in philosophy from Loomis during this year's draft, though. We will see if it comes to fruition for Kellen Moore's squad.
Saints entertaining trade back offers for first round
According to Jordan Schultz, the Santa have made call about trading back in round one. This hopeful move for them would help them garner draft capital to help them trade back into the first round to try to draft a quarterback.
From this thought process, it is clear that New Orleans probably is not thinking about a QB at the ninth pick. Instead, they want to take one later in round one or sometime on day two of this year's draft.
As far as possible options in a trade up in round one or sometime in round two, the Saints would be looking at Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, and Jalen Milroe. Will Howard and Kyle McCord are the potential quarterback options in round three or four for the NFL.
We will see how the Saints navigate this situation, but it is quite unique for Mickey Loomis and the front office for New Orleans. They legitimately never trade back. Loomis is always aggressive, usually trading up in the first or second round.
this is insane!! the last time Saints GM Mickey Loomis traded down in the NFL Draft, the iPhone wasn't even invented
he hasn't traded down ONCE since 2007
his trade record since then: 27 trade ups 0 trade downs -- Warren Sharp
If Schultz' report is accurate, this would be a massive audible by the front office for the Saints.
