Saints may catch a break that would help them sign another veteran playmaker for Kellen Moore's offense next season

The New Orleans Saints continue to monitor the free agency market around the NFL. A recent report about a veteran playmaker could interest Saints fans. He would immediately provide some depth at wide receiver for the black and gold.

Saints showing interest in WR Gabe Davis

According to Ian Rapoport, veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis will visit with the Saints. He recently had a visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Davis is 6'2 and 225 pounds. Davis began his pro career with 161 catches, 2,730 yards, and 27 touchdowns in four years with the Bills.

As Rapoport notes, a one-year deal seems most likely for Davis. He dealt with injury a season ago, and that situation could actually help the Saints get a deal done with him.

Gabe Davis is working his way back from a knee injury.

Davis has $11.5 million in guarantees from Jacksonville that is subject to offsets, meaning that whoever signs Davis will almost certainly get him for the league minimum. -- Nick Underhill

It would not cost them too much, and New Orleans made a similar move last year when they added Marquez Valdes-Scantling for the league minimum. That signing came in October, though, so this move is a bit more out in front.

MVS was a big-body option with a ton of NFL experience. Davis checks those boxes as well. New Orleans has limited size at the wide receiver position as of now, so I would not be surprised to see Davis added to the mix for Kellen Moore's unit.
