There's no time to waste remaining for the 2024 New Orleans Saints. NFL history is not on their side, but any hopes at the playoffs hinge on them making major adjustments on both sides of the football. That's what a six-game losing streak hands to you.
New Orleans' locker room is attempting something that they did in 2023 as well. They finished the season playing better football, but they still did not reach postseason play.
Saints reach familiar level of frustration
The Saints are planning on having a players-only meeting after their loss to the Chargers, according to Nick Underhill.
They say the message from the top is to “play Saints Football,” which is a good and honorable goal. We all know what that looks like and how it feels, and that’s why this is so frustrating. -- Underhill via NOFNetwork
The players-only meeting last season may have discussed similar topics that will come up in this year's meeting. They need more focus on details and accountability.
They are making mistakes that have turned into trends, like explosive plays allowed on defense and pre-snap problems on offense. Both sides of the football have warts that cannot be a part of performances when you are fighting to get back to surface level in the NFL.
They're 2-6. They've lost six games in a row for the first time since 2005. That's nearly two decades since these sort of struggles. Jim Haslett was fired after that season.
Dennis Allen;'s seat only gets hotter with every loss. His spill about getting to work and fixing their weekly issues grows old when nothing changes, even year to year. That is the honest truth for New Orleans at this point.
Clearly, the players know that they are more talented than that sort of proaction, but even then, they're running out of time to prove it. We will see if they look different in Week 9.
