Saints QB Derek Carr just got a new excuse for disappointing 2023 season

The Ne wOrleans Saints offense saw way too much inconsistency in 2023. Derek Carr needed to better. Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael also did. Now, with Klint Kubiak as their play-caller, they have new life - it seems.

If they want to reach their ceiling, one position group has to take a step forward. It is a young group at pass catcher for the black and gold.

Saints receivers must improve in 2024

There was clear communication at times between Carr and his targets last season. Sometimes, it was seemingly on the QB. Other times, that was not the case.

According to Warren Sharp, the Saints were among some teams (Washing Commanders, Arizona Cardinals, and Carolina Panthers) in incompletions due to receiver error.

Overall, the receiving group was in the top half when it came to the statistic. Regardless, you would expect talented players like the Saints have to be a bit more steady when it comes to communication, route running, drops, etc.

That being said, they are more talented than the WR groups around them in those rankings. Plain and simple - they have to get better production and efficiency from those receivers.

In 2024, the wideouts and Carr must both improve if the Saints want a return to the postseason. Dennis Allen's job may rely on them.
